Mark Rubelowsky

Studio Artist / Cleveland, OH
Mark Rubelowsky is an artist and designer, creating sculptural objects and functional art in glass, metal, and wood. Mark grew up exploring the natural beauty of southern Illinois. He went on to earn a bachelors degree in architectural engineering with an emphasis in interior design from the University of Southern Mississippi. More recently, Mark earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in glass, graduating with the class of 2019 from the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Mark is now working to combine his passions, drawing inspiration from architectural motifs, nature, the principles and elements of design, and his personal reactions to the material he is working with.

Inspiration

Mark draws most of his inspiration from his connection to the natural world. His work parallels many qualities found in the Japanese aesthetic of beauty wabi-sabi, and his work aims to distill the imperfect and impermanent fleeting moments one encounters in the solitude of the woods, and slow them down so he can share them with others.

Process

Processes used to create Mark's work involve gathering ideas and inspiration from hiking and camping; plaster/silica mold making for blowing and casting glass; woodworking; metal working;  and marrying these different mediums together into cohesive sculptural furniture and lighting.
